Summer Reading Challenge

The 2020 Challenge is over, get ready for 2021

The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency, is delivered in partnership with public libraries and funded by Arts Council England.

The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun and enjoyment as well as helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’. The Summer Reading Challenge website is free to access all year round and features games, quizzes and downloadable activities that encourage children to take part in reading related activities.

How 2020 was a bit different

The challenge normally runs in our libraries for eight weeks from mid-July to early September, however, in 2020 we were only able to run the challenge in libraries in a very limited way. Instead we signposted families to the Silly Squad website where The Reading Agency ran a digital challenge from June until the end of September.

What will happen in 2021?

All being well we hope to be able to run the full Summer Reading Challenge in our libraries in 2021.
